The well-developed, true to type De Volmer Barbaros (Silver x Iota x Shottle) is a bull with a North American pedigree. His paternal and maternal lines both offer particularly successful cow families: the Shauna and Barbie lines. As well as great production, these families rank high in the conformation stakes (incl. udders).
Silver, the sire of Barbaros, was already a widely used bull sire in his younger years. His qualities were proven even more once his daughters started producing milk (the oldest are already on their second calves). Silver scores well for production, somatic cell count and durability and makes a ground-breaking contribution to the conformation of his offspring. His faultless transmission of conformation traits is converted into wonderful frames, very good locomotion and super udders.
Top conformation is also a recurrent theme in his maternal line. Take Iota daughter Barbara (VG 89) for instance. This typical dairy type dam of Barbaros is the product of an embryo imported from the USA. She descends from six generations of cows ranked excellent, of which the first three generations all boast scores of 92 points. One of the best-known of these is Durham daughter Regancrest Barbie, the great grand dam of Barbaros. She has a wide scattering of progeny over the globe including full sisters Barbara (grand dam of Barbaros), Brasilia (EX 92) and Beya (VG 88). The cows in this family have an exceptionally good track record in producing amazing progeny over the generations - evidenced by four generations of cows with the predicate Gold Medal Dam. In the male line, this has produced bulls including Gold Chip, Capital Gain, Cashcoin and Cashmoney. One of the remarkable similarities shared by these bulls is their transmission of super udders.
